About 95% of the internet marketing headlines and articles that I read either promote junk, stuff that’s obsolete, stuff that doesn’t work, or stuff that does work and there’s 100s of articles on that topic already. Very rarely do I come across something that could be a game changer in the industry. But today I’ve read that, finally, a call tracking vendor has figured out how to take an audio file and translate it to text. So when a client gets a phone call from advertising, they can figure out what the call was about without taking the time to listen to it. Huge!

Most people know about the problems with fake news and click bait. But it’s 2018 and we have new issues. Such as fake websites with bots with the sole purpose of draining the banner ad budgets of businesses. And there’s tons of fake websites. Guru Larry Kim wrote a good article and how to combat it. This is how to do SEO in 2018. Focus on lots of specific, quality keywords. Check out one of our clients. A King’s Car Service in Minneapolis. They wanted to show up for Super Bowl keywords. And what makes them unique is they have a fleet of Teslas. So now they pop up #2 on Google for “tesla chauffeur super bowl”. As well as other specific keywords.
This is why experts like myself do well. Because even big companies like AT&T don’t get internet marketing. Their subject in their email was: “Is it easy to find your business online?” It’s bad for two big reasons. 1) Unless you’re a big business with a known brand, you don’t want to be easily found. Why? Because easily found equals overpaying per click. And when you overpay per click, it equals less calls and customers. And 2) It’s not good to get the business owner focused on how often they pop up on search. Because it has nothing to do with whether they make money or not. Being found easily does not mean website clicks turn into calls. And does not mean calls turn into customers.
Read MoreLet us not forget the big reason search engines are better than banner ads: accidental clicks. Think about how many times in the past year you’ve clicked on a banner ad on purporse. And then think how many times you’ve accidentally clicked on one. Especially on your cell phone. Until this issue is figured out, all the AI, data, and targeting isn’t going to matter.
