Chicken or the egg: are 40% of top search results https (secured) because https helps seo rankings? or is 40% of top search results https because everybody in the industry is being told you need to be https for better results and more websites have then become https, with no direct seo benefit? internet marketing is very much so a copycat industry. id bet on more of the latter.

Twitter is getting desperate trying to find someone to buy their company. theyve now been around for over 10 years and have not turned a profit once. their board is ready to cash out. and they think the reason they havent turned a profit yet is because of the trolls that use their platform and how big corporate companies are afraid that the trolls will drag down their brand. so for the first time ive ever seen, a big social media outfit is going to try and rid their platform of trolls. the first step is getting rid of vine, the 6 second video looping program. itll be interesting to see what they do next and if they succeed. no one has yet

Theres already two big disruptions underway to the delivery business. uber-type deliveries. made by people who happen to be closest to the warehouse and customer. and in a few years: driverless cars. now add a third disruption. drone delivery. that’s right. remote drones delivering packages to customers. and it seems a majority of millenials are receptive to the idea.

AI and big data do a lot more. it gives you the ability to track which websites a person has gone on to figure out if theyre a good match to serve banner ads too. im not sure if the public is going to be cool with that.

Go to google and do a search for “king of the united states”. and you’ll see “barack obama” in google’s answer box. its a tricky situation that google has with their answer box when it comes to polarizing subjects, such as politics. the newest controversy in our industry is democrats being upset that if you do a search california’s prop 63, a republican answer shows up in the answer box. my guess is that google’s algorithm is going to have to figure out which websites have content that is political and provide a democrat answer and a republican answer. this could also be done when it comes to questions such as the origin of earth. you could have a religious answer and an atheist answer. (disclosure: search engine land, like many in the tech industry, writes from a democrat perspective)

I predict within the next 1-2 years, small businesses will get more text messages from potential customers than phone calls and emails. as such, google is about to launch an extension that allows potential customers to text businesses directly right off of google.
